Il Politetrafluoroetilene (PTFE) e? una materia plastica ottenuta per polimerizzazione del tetrafluoroetilene (CF4), ottenuto a sua volta dalla pirolisideldifluoroclorometano(CHC1F2). Possiede un insieme di caratteristiche fisico-chimiche, finora non riscontrate in nessun altro materiale plastico. La sua invenzione è datata 1938, l’inizio della sua diffusione avviene negli anni ‘50, mentre la produzione su larga scala parte dagli anni ‘60.
